Here are some impressions of the VERVE-Exhibition of this year’s winter Bright Tradeshow in Frankfurt. The exhibtion was showing photography only.
As this was the last time in the very unique location in Franfurt we would like to say good bye and thank you for the great time we had the last couple of years. We look forward to seeing what will happen when the Bright moved to Berlin this summer.
Our guest this time was photographer Jens Kaesemann showing his work titled “fuck us now love us later”.
And beside the VERVE-Exhibition we found excellent photography of Lozza exhibited at the STWD booth and Crista Leonard at the booth of our friends les ettes.
BRIGHT Tradeshow in Frankfurt is on again and so is our VERVE-Exhibition in Room #192. Special guest this time is Hamburg based photographer Jens Kaesemann exhibiting his work titled “fuck us now love us later”. Come by.. visit us and dive into Jens’ world.

This post may appear off topic as this is a magazine about photography and not about photo gear.
But the new Leica M9 is not just a camera. The Leica M is the camera that enabled for decades many famous reportage photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson to capture the decisive moment. The M9 seems to be the perfect adaptation of the magic rangefinder concept into the digital age. An impressive 18 Megapixel full-frame sensor built into a very compact, rock solid and retro styled body. The simple and intuitive handling of the M9 concentrates on the essentials of photography - compared to those feature overloaded monsters of japanese camera manufactures.
I really can’t wait to get one in my hand.. definitely a wanna-have tool for any photographer. But take care: the handling of the camera, the feeling and sound of the shutter and the quality of the razor-sharp and contrasty images of a Leica M can be highly addictive.

Some people collect stamps. Some people build lampshades out of used Chinese chopsticks. Some people in Great Britain’s Brighton meet to feel salt water on their skin, no matter if it’s rainy, sunny, windy, warm or cold. 365 days a year, every morning and every evening, since 1860, people like them experience nature with all its power and manage to step in the element not with fear but with joy. Some people are sea swimmers.
German photographer Hansi Herbig is well known for his works with water in another state of aggregation. Even though he’s a pioneer in snowboard photography, his take on this self-described “non-athletic” club almost makes you wonder if you didn’t smell the ocean for just one second.

Creative Growth Art Center is based in Oakland, CA and the world’s first non-profit art center dedicated to artists with developmental, physical, and mental disabilities. Since 1992, Dan Miller is part of this project and his works let us catch a glimpse of his view as they reflect his perception: Letters and words are repeatedly overdrawn, often creating ink layered masses, hovering on the page and built up to the point of obliteration or destruction of the ground. Their topics are written recordings of the artist’s obsession with objects like light bulbs, food, electrical sockets, and the names of cities and people. Even though his artworks already traveled to several exhibitions in New York or Paris, they preserved their private impression.

Jesse Diamond brings the night sky into the Farmani Gallery for the opening reception of his photographic series Drive. This series, born of late night drives, captures landscapes illuminated by what the nighttime provides - street lamps, traffic lights and at times the moonlight through the mist. To recreate the ambience within the imagery and connect the viewer to the mood, the special lighting will fill the gallery and surround the photographs and the onlooker.
For this one-night only lighting effect, Diamond enlisted Fusion Lighting in New York. “The gallery ceiling will be filled with deep blue, simulating moonlight,” said Marcus Mordachini, of Fusion Lighting, “the entire gallery will have an effect of the night sky inside.”
The Farmani Gallery is proud to feature Diamond’s series Drive, in its debut exhibition and the first New York show for Mr. Diamond. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 14, from 6-9PM and coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Farmani Gallery in New York and the New York Photo Festival. The exhibit runs through June 12, 2009. Hossein Farmani states, “We are very proud to feature such a fantastic selection of Jesse’s imagery. We have loved what he has shown for us in Los Angeles and are very excited to exhibit him at our New York gallery, especially during a very special time for us as we celebrate our one-year anniversary. Jesse’s work is a highlighting example of the quality of work we try to present.”
